Summary

The Southern Vermont EMS conference has a key message. Emergency Medical Services are an integral part of community medicine. Our best known role is responding to medical emergencies after someone dials 911. Progressively, the role of transporting patients between hospitals has become as critical to the community as our role in getting the patient to the hospital. Most community hospitals rely on the advanced capabilities and specialization found in the regional trauma centers. Paramedics are often called on to transport most complicated patients from a community hospital to a regional center. We take folks from the ICU, the CCU, and the ER to places like Lebanon NH, and Albany NY, and Springfield MA. Furthermore, EMS providers are a vital link between hospitals and community. At other times, we work hand-in-hand with law enforcement.

This conference strives to illustrate this continuum of care by bringing in representatives from Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and from the medical examiner's office. While we all prefer the saves and success stories, our role in death is important too. Once in a while, we must acknowledge this darker aspect of our position in the continuum of care. Yet, with training, our actions can improve the outcome in these situations too. We can always do it better.

Vendor registration forms are now available. Registration for the attendees will be published in March.
