Guideline Manual

DRAFT February 2010

Uniform Classification

Given Halifax EMS does not typically have a duty crew standing by at a station, our daily uniforms are accepted a variety of workshirts, jackets or shirts. We do aim to have some method of identifying ourselves has professional medical providers, if possible. Time and situation may not allow for much more than a safety vest or a pullover.

In general, Halifax EMS has 3 uniform standards. These standards are:

  1. Class A or Dress or Formal
  2. Class B or Garrison
  3. Class C or Utility

The Class A uniform is used for formal occasions, most typically funerals. They can be worn for celebratory events such as award ceremonies and parades.

The Class B uniform for daily wear, especially when attending meeting where a member is representing Halifax EMS to the public or other uniformed services. This includes public training events, hospital visits to see patients, etc. This is the preferred uniforms for event standby or situations where Halifax EMS personnel are "on duty" for coverage.

The Class C uniform is for daily wear, specifically work parties or other informal gatherings.
